Greetings,

At our regular monthly pub night in February we'll be holding an AGM for Bi-NSW during which we'll sign off the accounts for last year, appoint a new committee, and decide what the group should be doing for the coming year.

Everybody, member or not, is welcome to come along and add their thoughts.

The venue is the Marlborough Hotel, cnr King St & Missenden Rd, Newtown and within the pub you'll find us up on Level One around the back of the main bar (beyond the pool tables) where there is an outdoor deck area.

If you'd like an "official" vote at the meeting we will be collecting membership fees just prior to the meeting. The official part of the meeting starts at 7:30pm, but our normal pub night is from 6:30pm through to about 8pm. After that we generally head somewhere close by for dinner.

We'll be a small part of the larger Sydney Poly group that has their social meeting at the same place and time, so if you're having problems tracking us down try phoning 0416-070360.

Reschedule of Sydney Bi Pub night

Dear all,

I was meant to send out an email about 3 weeks ago but I have to admit to a very decreased lack on interest on my part. Anyway.........

At last month's Bi-NSW / SBN / Bisexual Sydney pub night the few people that attended agreed that to encourage more attendance we should try moving the date of the pub night to the second Sunday of the month. This is a deliberate attempt to leverage, or tie in with, the people that attend the monthly Sydney Poly Social drinks on that same day at the same venue.

Nominally that means today/tonight but given the late notice, and therefore inability for anybody to comment upon it, (and also the fact that I can't get to the pub tonight) I'm proposing that we still get together next week.

It'll then be up to the "community", including anybody from the Poly group who has an opinion on this, to decide whether to proceed with the change of date as of next month.

Come along if you'd like to meet a few of our people face to face - you don't have to volunteer to do anything, but you can add your ideas to the mix.

Bi flavoured T-shirts needing to be shifted

I have a whole swag of t-shirts in my place left over from various Mardi Gras parade entries from years gone by. I need to get rid of these prior to moving away from Sydney so I'm open to offers from people who want to take them off my hands. Either in bulk for distribution to another Bi community or one by one for individuals.

It's not essential, but it'd be nice to get some money from them to go back into the Bi-NSW coffers.

Bi-NSW and its funds

Folks,

Bi-NSW Inc is a formal entity representing the Bi community that has been around for quite a few years and was created from the informal groups that preceded it. Most notably Bi-NSW has been the organisation behind the successful Biversity parties. Profits from those parties have funded various different Bi awareness activities.

In the last few years Bi-NSW has effectively had no volunteers running it and its fund raising and fund spending activities have ceased to happen.

Within the next few months I'll be leaving Sydney and therefore will no longer be able to be the public officer of the organisation. Unless a committee forms and takes on the formal admin I will have to notify the NSW authorities of the group's closure.

Maybe not such a big deal events wise - the few informal activities can continue to happen.

But.... the group has approx $2,000 in its bank accounts and that money legally must either be spent on group related activities before the group closes, or the money must be distributed to another non-profit organisation.

So if you have ideas for how to spend that $2K on Bi related activities, promotions, events,.... NOW is the time to kick into gear!!

Bi-NSW pub night this Sunday - another Biversity in the air?

Howdy all,

The third Sunday of the month is when we have our monthly drinks, chat, and dinner. It's currently the only "organised" event within the Sydney Bi community per se. So if you'd like to meet some of us face-to-face this is the time to do it.

Date & time: This Sunday, 20th March, 6:30pm. Until 8pm at the pub, and then onwards to dinner.

Venue: Level One, Upstairs at the Marlborough Hotel, cnr King St & Missenden Rd, Newtown

Important: There are several parts to the upstairs floor. We gather either on the outside deck or in the small room next to it. This deck (which is not the balcony) is beyond the pool tables, which themselves are down a few steps at the end of the bar. To reiterate - if you access level one via the internal stairs you will need to go beyond the pool tables to find us!

Identifying the group: First thing is to look for a large candle (not necessarily lit) that is blue/pink/purple. Bear in mind that depending on when you turn up the "group" may only be a couple of people. If that fails try phoning me on 0416-070360.

Joining the group: Just come up and say hello. We're simply a bunch of friends having a drink and a chat.

Discussion: Some of the chat may be about Bi stuff but just as likely it'll be about all sorts of other everyday things too. If you have questions about bisexuality, or the Bi group, or your own situation you're quite welcome to add them to the mix.

Biversity: Those who have been around for a while will remember that for a few years we ran a number of very successful dance parties for the Bi community and friends. These "Biversity" parties were very friendly and characterised by their "no attitude" ethos. Several experienced people have been chatting about getting another party together so if you're keen to see this event happen, come along and add your thoughts to the mix this Sunday.

Dinner: At around 8pm we tally up the number of people who'd like to go and eat and then we come to some sort of consensus for the restaurant of choice. Sometimes we only go as far as the bistro downstairs, sometimes we go vegetarian, etc etc. Newtown offers plenty of choice. If you're only able to arrive around 8pm or after give me a phone call or SMS on 0416-070360 to check where we are eating.

Celebration: At last month's pub night our long time member Leon told us that because his birthday falls right beside this month's pub night he'll let us toast his mumble mumble years with him!

Hellfire: Talking of birthdays, the Sydney Hellfire Club is celebrating 18 years tonight. That's pretty incredible for any monthly club event let alone for one that is dedicated to the fetish community. Hellfire is renowned for being "female friendly" and accepting of the entire diversity of body shapes and sizes. Check out www.sydneyhellfire.com for more info including the freebies and prizes that are on offer. The venue is "The Gaff" on Oxford St. Note that there is a "fetish" dress code.

Bi Trivia night is an occasion for Bi or bi-friendly people of all genders to get together and have a few laughs – you don't have to be good at trivia or good at being bi really – you just have to enjoy hanging out with like-minded folk. Oh and in case your wondering it's just regular trivia not trivia questions about bisexuality although in Newtown you never know what can come up.

Bi Trivia night is truly a chance to meet people as they are and make a real connection – you can have real conversation and hear each other and get to know each other – sometimes that can be difficult in nightclub type settings.

Want to be part of the Bi-NSW decision group?

Folks,

If you've read some of my previous emails you would have known that our pub night last Sunday was flagged as being a decision point about the continuation of Bi-NSW.

The consensus at the meeting was that a group of some sort should be retained - but that the nature of the group needs defining, or re-defining.

We pulled some names together of people who want to be part of that definition process and are creating an email list to be used to coordinate things.

If you're interested in volunteering your ideas and/or time to this discussion group you can join the email list by sending a blank email to:

Is there a Bi community?
What defines the Bi community?
How is it best to communicate with the community?
Does Bi-NSW represent that community?
What types of events should be held?
Where should they be held?
Should we be "spreading the word" about bisexuality?
Can we provide support to those questioning their sexuality?
Can we be organised enough to keep the B in "GLBTQI" in Sydney?
Does financial membership encourage more or less participation?
We have money in the bank - how would it best be spent?

Within this process is the opportunity for anybody to redefine what the group is about so if you've been frustrated that nothing happens that suits your circumstances, now is the time to help change things.

I am stepping down from my admin role in the group but I obviously retain an interest so if you have questions you are welcome to email me direct.

Also come along to talk about how Bi-NSW and the Sydney bisexual community can maintain some sort of cohesion.

Can we recreate a lively Sydney Bi community?

Howdy all,

For the last couple of years Bi-NSW (formerly Sydney Bisexual Network), and the organised Bi community in general, has been extremely "inactive". Primarily this is because the number of people stepping up to volunteer to activate, coordinate, infiltrate, and remonstrate has dropped to almost none. (Entries in the Mardi Gras Parade and the monthly pub night are about the only exceptions.)

In my formal role as treasurer of Bi-NSW and informal role as "admin person" I have maintained some of the formal group infrastructure in a holding pattern but not done much else other than turn up to the monthly pub night.

The reason for this email is that we have come to a point where something must be done to re-energise the group and/or community otherwise the administration effort isn't justified. As part of the steps to force a decision one way or the other I will be stepping down from the positions I hold both formally and informally.

A meeting is being held on 21st February as part of our monthly pub night at the Marlborough Hotel, cnr King St & Missenden Rd, Newtown. Formally this will be an AGM to sign off the 08/09 accounts but it may also be a meeting at which we decide to wind up the formal entity of Bi-NSW Inc.

It'd be great to see each of you as well as other members of the greater Bi community turn up to propose ideas for getting a "Bi scene" happening in Sydney again. As people who have made the effort of joining a Bi focused email list you're all contributing in some way to the visibility of our "non-conformist" sexuality.

If you'd like to attend, the location at the Marlborough is upstairs on Level One but keep walking past the bar, then past the pool tables until you get to an outdoor deck area. Depending on the weather the group either gathers in this outdoor area or in the small room just off to the side. (It all makes sense when you see it!) Start time is 6:30pm and then around 8pm people tend to want to head off for food.

If you can't make that meeting you may like to meet up earlier in the day during Mardi Gras Fair Day at Victoria Park. Bi-NSW won't be having a stall but I'll make a point of being near the Sydney Leather Pride stall (west, uphill, next to the Uni) from 3pm to 3:30pm if you would like to drop by and discuss ideas or raise your hand as a potential volunteer.

In chats I have with people I keep referring to the example of what happened when a group of 10 - 15 enthusiastic people got together back in 2001 and proposed a dance party organised by bisexuals for bisexuals. The result was 14 Biversity parties over the next 5 years with hundreds and hundreds of people happy to be celebrating the diversity and friendliness of a newfound community.

I know that we have people around with skills and enthusiasm to make things happen again - so it's just a matter of pulling all this into an increasing spiral of activity.

How do you think this can be done?? I encourage you to voice your opinion via whichever Bi email list you receive this message on.

Dear all,

This Sunday we will be having our first pub night of the year. Details down at the bottom of this email. This gathering is a good way to meet up with some of the people in the Bi community face-to-face over refreshing drinks.

We will need to have a bit of a discussion about whether we will be having a Bi entry in the Mardi Gras parade. For this to happen we need a couple of people to volunteer to organise. At this late stage it would probably just be a coordinated marching group - but if you volunteer to organise you get to choose the format!

Planning ahead to the meeting next month....

Pub night will be on Sunday the 21st (same day as Fair Day which is the official start of Mardi Gras season) and our meeting will include the small formality of an AGM for Bi-NSW. Generally that just takes 5 minutes to confirm a few members are present and have them agree that the accounts are OK.

The point of interest however is that I will be standing down from any and all official roles for Bi-NSW. Effectively I haven't done anything for the group in the last couple of years and when people assume that I will be doing things that I don't I end up being more of a hindrance than a help.

Given that for those same couple of years we haven't had an "active" committee either - this will be a watershed event. ie. some others have to step up to the plate to take on the running of the group or we will have to formally deregister Bi-NSW. If you'd like to contribute you don't necessarily have to attend the Feb pub night, but you should let me and others in these email groups know of your interest.

If you have thoughts about an entry in the parade or how Bi-NSW can keep running please be proactive and publish those thoughts to whichever of these lists you are part of.

I hope to see you at one or both of the Jan & Feb pub nights.

Bi/Poly Mardi Gras Float

Update from Jenny: Working bee.

We will be doing the float build at our place in Frenchs Forest (ph me 0410 520 635 or Chris 0401 988 844) on Sunday March 1st.

Bring your swimmers, we have a pool and there will be a pool party after the building is done.

We can make a run or two to Chatswood station to collect people - if we have people needing that, we will set pick-up time(s). People will need to register in advance for a ride so we know how many cars to bring.

Hi all! Mardi Gras deadlines are looming again, so it's time to think about the parade again. Remember - this is a truly national float. You are all invited!

We are expecting an even larger contingent of gorgeous Bi-Viccers to join us this year, following the wildly successful group expedition last year, so if you have skipped a parade or two, or you have been thinking about doing your first one this year, DO IT!! You won't regret it ...

Our theme this year is "Please Don't Feed The Bisexuals", and you can wear anything you like as long as it has an animal theme. Go leopard print, faux fur, strap-on tails, or body-painted scales - there's a world of sexy options this year!

We need to get a grant application in by next Friday, including supplier quotes, and the parade application form the following week. This means making some decisions in the next few days. If you would like to be part of the brainstorming, reply off-list and we will set up a separate discussion list just for Mardi Gras planning.

We'll let you know when the website is open for online payments, and what the parade registration fee will be.

We also need volunteers for the following opportunities:

someone to drive the truck - involves collecting it in the morning and driving it to where we assemble the float, then driving it into the parade area at the appointed time, and staying with it until the end of the parade
someone to attend the briefing meeting during the day on Sat 28th Feb as our representative, collect the information pack, and turn up at the parade to tell everyone where to go
someone to arrive at the parade nice and early to pick up wristbands and start the meet-and-tag process
people to help with building the float beforehand and on the day
people to pick up lights, sound gear, etc

Hi there Deb, you're quite right - sorry I've been slack and not gotten organised enough to let everyone know.

Pub night, this Sunday 20th, will be at the Marlborough Hotel, upstairs on the first floor, preferably in the semi-outdoor area known as "The Deck", otherwise in the "Level One" bar.

Starting time is also altered to 6:30pm with a guarantee that we'll be there until at least 8pm - but maybe later.

The Marly is on the corner of King St & Missenden Rd in Newtown.

The Deck is a small bar that you get to by going upstairs, then through the bar on the first floor, and then through the pool table area. Sounds a bit complicated but really you just follow your nose. (It's the same place as the Poly Social group meets.)

As always you'll be able to find our table by the multi-coloured (pink/purple/blue) candle on our table. Failing that you can try ringing my mobile 0416-070360.

The number of people that turn up can be quite variable, but generally expect a group of between 5 and 15 of us. A mixture of guys, girls, singles, couples, young, old, etc etc.

There is absolutely no requirement to "out" yourself if you come along to join us. We're just a bunch of friends at the pub having a drink and chat. The intention is to have a meal afterwards at one of the many many restaurants nearby on King St.

The Sydney Bisexual Network pub night always happens on the 3rd Sunday of the month.

Bi float for Mardi Gras 2008

Hi all!

We need to get our asses into gear for Mardi Gras - we've had lots of great ideas talked about, but now is the time for DOING to start!!

We're going to be at the Marlborough Hotel on Sunday afternoon. If you're interested in the Mardi Gras float, please stop by at 4pm on the DOT, and we'll have a quick meeting, work out who is doing what, and then those who want to can hang around and snog the cute poly people as they arrive for the Poly Social.

If you can't make 4pm on Sunday, please email me in advance to let me know what sorts of things you are willing/able to do, and any suggestions you'd like to make, and I'll stand in for you at the meeting.

Thanks to all the people who have already told me they want to help - it's going to be a parTAY, I can tell you!! And it looks like the contingent from Victoria is going to be even larger, bolder, and sexier than last year (if such a thing is possible)!

Blow off your grandmother's birthday tea if you have to, and join us at 4 on Sunday!

Come along and help out at our Fair Day Stall

Howdy all,

The year is ticking over pretty quickly and in just 11 days it's time for another Mardi Gras Fair Day - Sunday 17th Feb @ Victoria Park (next to Broadway).

This year Bi-NSW is reverting to having a stall of our own that we can use to distribute information to the crowds of people that have heard the word "bisexual" but haven't yet quite come to grips with what one is!!!

Seriously though, there are lots of people that don't know how to meet Bi folks so giving them the opportunity to have a chat and discover how many of us there are really puts a smile on their face.

To do this we need some people to be the welcoming faces during the course of the day. There's nothing onerous or technical about it so please have a think about volunteering. Generally we'd allocate you to between 1 & 2 hours of manning the stall along with at least one other person. I think the times will be from about 10:00am through to 5:00pm.

If you can't do the volunteering thing, then at least drop by our stall on the day and say hello - particularly if you've not met any of us face to face before.

DVD night in Glebe

Dear all,

Our long time member, Leon, has pulled some DVDs from his archives
that he's decided he'd like to watch in the company of of other bi-
friendly folks. With an eye on the plasma TV that Suze & I have in
our living room he suggested that the "screening" could be held at
our place in Glebe.

So this coming Friday (14th) is the night to come along and relax in
front of the screen with some friends.

You'll see from below that there is one film of 110 minutes and one
of about 90 minutes. Given that we also have a projector screen,
depending on the numbers of people that turn up we may be able to run
each of the films in parallel in alternating rooms.

Bi-NSW - what do you want to see happen?

I'm sure that most of you have noticed that the events calendar for the Bi community has been a little thin lately. To change that we need some new ideas and hopefully also some new volunteers.

If you can help with either, or both, of those areas then you are welcome to come along to our bi-monthly planning meeting in Glebe this Thursday 17th.

It's a very informal meeting that starts at 7:30pm and generally goes no later than 9:30pm.

One of my, not very original, thoughts is to hold a bisexual speed dating evening (ie. you'd get to do the quick spiel with everyone, not just the opposite gender). But I've never actually been to a speed date - maybe somebody who has can flesh that idea out more? I'm pretty sure at our last pub night somebody suggested the evening could be complemented with a "slave auction".

Another thought has been that, given the amount of effort that goes into organising a Biversity party, maybe we can cut down on that effort by simply doing a bisexual "flash mob" of an established event or venue. (ie. pick a particular night in advance, but wait until just a couple of days beforehand to pick the best event/venue)

There could also be a forum or discussion evening to allow people to delve into the common questions about bisexuality and dealing with it. We could start with a topical theme and progress from there. (eg. can being locked in immigration detention really alter your sexuality?)

Some other suggestions I've heard have been a Masquerade Ball, a group visit to the Korean Ginseng Bathhouse at Kings Cross, and a "fuckerware" party with live demonstrations! (I know there have been others also but my memory is bad.)

If you have an idea that you reckon would appeal to a bunch of bored bisexuals, then let us know. Either by coming along on Thursday, or contacting me, or simply replying to this post to see what the level of interest is.

Come and join us in the Mardi Gras parade

Howdy all,

The BIG news of this week in our parade preparations is that our application for a grant from Mardi Gras was accepted which means we can put together some really great visuals, lighting, and sound for our entry.

I asked Jenny (our float co-ordinator) for a general description of our entry and it came back like this:

This year's Bi-NSW float is themed "Equal Opportunity Lovers".

Marchers will be decked out in classic black T-shirts bearing the words "Equal Opportunity Lover", and silvery wings, which will catch
the rays of pink, purple, and blue light radiating from the float itself - a gigantic pink, blue and purple candle!

Like moths to a flame, the swirl of marchers will move in co-ordinated waves to the upbeat sounds of songs like "Happy Boys and Happy Girls" and "Girls and Boys", spreading a particularly bi brand of bouncy, sexy fun along the parade route ... see you there!

We're only 3 weeks away from the big night (Saturday 3rd March) so now is the time to make your plans to join us in dancing up the street with half a million people cheering you on!!! We want you and your friends and your family to come and join us in our celebration of love that has no gender boundaries.

We do need you to "register" your intent to join us so that we can plan to have enough t-shirts and wings. You can do that by sending an email to Jenny at mardigras@bi-nsw.org.au with names, contact email/
phone, and t-shirt sizes. Or wait a couple of days and we'll have registration and payment set up on our web site bi-nsw.org.au

Yes, you read that last bit correctly, we do need you to pay towards the costs:
Prepayment: $20 ($15 for Bi-NSW financial members)
Cash payment on the night: $25 ($20 for members)

But remember you get a t-shirt and wings for that as well as an enormous buzz!!!

For those "rebels" amongst us - to give maximum visual impact to the crowd ALL our participants MUST wear the provided t-shirts.

Those of you who haven't previously marched should also be aware that to participate you'll probably need to be at the marshalling area near Hyde Park about 5pm and possibly won't exit from the finishing area until 11pm (depends on what position our entry is allocated).

if you've helped out before on other years and enjoyed the company

or wondered how it all comes together...

then tomorrow night's the night to get along to...

As a premium (paid) member, you are able to access all the functions of a basic membership as well as contact other members and access the chat room. This is an excellent site which you should definately check out!

WHY THE CHOICE OF 2 DATES?

Because several members have indicated that they would like to have a monthly dinner on a Saturday evening for a change. Unfortunately I already have commitments for the first Saturday in December, therefore the second Saturday in December has been given as an option.

we've hired 2- 3 cabins

and i'm told there's plenty of water in the wollondilly river and a new spa

after emailing folks back n forwards, it has been suggested, and i agree, that it's probably a goood idea, that we get together to chat about transport and food and other consumerables and equipment and anything else that's on our minds

Nude camping

hi all

each year as the weather warms up a few of us head south to river island, clothing optional resort, for an all over tan.

last year was fun,

this year we've booked in for the weekend of friday 17th to sunday 19th of november 2006

river island is quite close to sydney (just past mittagong), very picturesque and well serviced

it's nestled in a valley full of wildlife that is beautiful to drive into in the early evening, the river even has platypi (if that's the plural of platypuses) though the water was a bit cold in august of last year - hence we're suggesting a november trip for this year, and the camping sites run along the river, which is where we've camped in the past

there are cabins of varying sizes (we've booked a five person cabin and are happy to share with three others), covered caravans and a fairly basic kiosk, the pool area has plenty of warm and cold water pools and spas with plenty of decking set in a very lush garden

we've thought about checking out some of the other resorts as well, which we may do if people are interested

Once a year Bi-NSW spends 15 minutes doing the formal AGM stuff that comes as part of being an "Incorporated Association". It's also the time that we try to cajole a few more people to be involved in our "planning group" - which is the group of people who volunteer some of their time to help keep the Bi community active in NSW. (If you're an introvert like me I really recommend this as a gentle way of getting to know more of the people in our community.)

This year, after the official stuff is over (like I said that only takes around 15 minutes) we'll have some general discussion on how our week of celebration in September panned out. Of course this includes ideas on how to make it better. We can also chat about any other ideas you might have. ie. it'll be informal.

So this is a general invite for you to attend that meeting.

Yes - the Biversity party did seem to go rather well :-)

A big thank you to the various volunteers who put in effort with
ideas, decorations, DJs, posters (extraordinary design!), flyers, bump
in, door bitching, lighting (great lasers!), cloaking, bump out, and
more.

But also thanks to everyone who came along, and brought their friends
along, to make it a real community event. I definitely get a warm glow
when I see that the parties are still living up to our "no attitude"
slogan.

Celebrate Bisexuality Week in Sydney - A list of events

There are quite a number of Bi-NSW volunteers labouring away to get a swag of events organised such that anybody who is in Sydney in September should have no excuse for not attending at least one of our events.

The following is my current best effort at correlating all the info on what we have happening. It is almost guaranteed that I'll have some errata, but none of them will be deliberate!

Much of the fun is happening at Aurora Gallery, 43 Bedford St, Newtown (just off King St) - we have the venue booked for the whole week - in particular for the QArt exhibition.

A "no attitude" dance party for bisexuals and their friends. This is a fun night out "in the jungle" with friends who are accepting of all genders, all sexualities, all body shapes, all clothing styles, all ages, etc etc etc. Having said that, if you dress to the theme you'll find it much easier to strike up conversations and make new friends. Please note that to help keep this a community event we will NOT be selling tickets on the door and there is a practical limit on attendees imposed by the venue space. ie. buy your tickets ASAP!

Yes Biversity number 14 is full steam ahead with venue and DJs locked in, theme decided, poster design in final stages, lighting being prepped, volunteers starting to line up, so what we need now is some patrons!!

Biversity parties??
Since 2001 the Bi community in Sydney has been holding dance parties targeted at all those Bi folks who often complain that there is no space or venue to go to which has a Bi focus. The format is similar to any other nightclub with a dance floor as well as a lounging space and DJs with heavy thumping music. But the big thing about our parties is how friendly they are - the phrase we keep using is "attitude free". All sexualities, all body shapes, all genders, all ages (have to be over 18 though, sorry), all relationship states, all clothing styles - you just have to be Bi friendly.
Currently they are only happening once per year - so get your friends or partners organised ASAP.

Unfortunately the lovely Kat who organised it last year is now based down in Tassie so we're looking for a volunteer or two to take on the mantle. At our recent planning group meeting it was suggested that those from last year's winning table might like to step forward??

I believe that Nurse Nancy has mentioned she'd love to don her white outfit again to be MC, and lascivious Les has said he's keen to trawl the stalls at Sexpo looking for sponsored prizes.

The Pervertibles workshop, run by kinky craftster Mr Murphy, and Bi-NSW Convener Miss Yasmin, was a lovely evening of sharp knives, rubber, heatshrink, leather, candles and beer.
They were ably assisted by the following team:
Liddle Les in a gorgeous liddle kilt,
Miss Beth kept the workers in line as Officer Laura Norda,
The sparkliest femme, Miss Ali,
Bad Pauly, the baddest person to weild a bike inner tube,
and our favourite firefighter, Nic.

Mardi Gras Parade brainstorming session - tonight

Dear all,

The Bi community tries to always have an entry in the Mardi Gras
parade. Some years we start preparing months beforehand and some years
we cobble something together at the last minute.

This year we're tending towards the latter category so we probably
won't have anything sophisticated (or expensive) but we still want to
make the best impact possible as well as make it a fun night.

Hence a brainstorming session is happening tonight at Suze's and my
place in Glebe (Sydney) from 7pm. If you'd like to contribute ideas or
energies please come along. If you don't already have our address

QArt @ Succulent - An exhibition of bi & queer art in Newtown

In addition to that blurb I have seen some of the insider emails and from what I can see we currently have 18 artists showing 38 pieces. I think it's going to be a stunning exhibition.

Weekend Away catch up (finally) :)

Hi there everyone,

Sorry this has taken soo long, but finally worked out how to post messages on this site.

Well, the weekend away to River Island Retreat, was truly not to be missed. Those of us that travelled down on Friday (just in time to get the tents set up, before light faded and the mossie plague hit us), had a great night just sitting around the citronella candles, getting to know each other. Also gave us our first taste of literally being at one with nature, being woken up during the night, by a wombat eating grass close to our tent (#&^$^%#^$#$%#^^%).

The weather on Saturday couldn't have been better, and it wasn't long 'til the guys were enjoying an all-over tan. The days activities included bushwalking (to some nearby rapids), swimming (although some people got out as quick as they jumped in, keeping water activities to the heated pools / spas), sunbathing, and general lounging around. Some smoking kept most people relaxed, whilst the rest of us used the beautiful surroundings (+ some chill music), to leave the rest of the world behind.

Saturday night involved more smoking & lots of wine, whilst some of us lounged around the pool area, relaxing in the pools / spas, and comparing appendages of other visitors at the resort (we all agreed that size does not increase pleasure, for some were thought to be 'too' big). And we thank Ditzy for his rendition of a vacuum cleaner (don't ask about what he sucked up, you really don't want to know).

Sunday was a much more sobering experience, with many hangovers, and very quiet speech. Most of us were packed up & on our way by 10:15am (we had to vacate by 10am), which gave us the opportunity to spend the day leisurely making our way back home. Some of us visited Wombeyan Caves on their way home, whilst the rest of us enjoyed a nice drive through the countryside; visiting Kangaroo Valley, Berry (for a delicious & expensive lunch), and Maccas (for dessert).

This allowed some of us to get back in time to check-out the Newtown Festival, and the remainder just crashed at home (recovering after a very relaxing & intoxicating weekend). But, with a huge smile, I can gladly say that by the end of the weekend, everyone who attended had loosened their inhibitions, and enjoyed themselves immeasurably (pokes tongue out at those that chose not to attend).

I'd like to thank the others that attended, and invite them to also post messages here, giving their account of the weekend.

Hi Folks,
Many thanks to everyone who came along last week to the book launch! It was wonderful to see such a great crowd there. I had an excellent night - and I won't hesitate to say - all because there was such a wonderful group of people to join in celebrating.

And a huge thankyou to Andrew for organising the gorgeous food platters (and to Andrews' Mum for preparing the fruit platter!).

Bi-NSW is hosting the Australian launch of the international anthology "Bi the Way: Voices of Bisexuals Around the World" at Gleebooks on the 1st of November.

Wearing my Convener of Bi-NSW hat, I shall be hosting (hostessing?) the launch. We'll also hear some of the authors read their contributions to this wonderfully comprehensive tome.

SBN pub night needs a new venue

Our usual venue for monthly drinks, the Bank Hotel in Newtown, is currently closed for renovations. We need to decide on a venue for Oct/Nov/Dec drinks.

Preference is in Newtown, and somewhere that has a reasonably quiet bar on a Sunday night where we can sit and chat comfortably.

Suggestions urgently needed!!

Celebrate Bisexuality Month

Well in case you missed it the Bi-NSW committee helped put on a whole swag of Bi related events during September. The intention was to have enough variety in type, location, day, etc that everybody in the extended Bi community could find at least one event to come along to.

I'm pretty sure that at every event we had some new faces turn up. Of course the adverts we took out in LOTL and SX helped raise our profile in the queer community also.

So a successful month with lots of effort from a range of volunteers - congratulations to all.

What were the events? - Trivia, Biversity, Sydney BiFem, Media Whoring workshop, Sydney Bi Youth, BiFusion, Queer Picnic, Sex on Premises visit, Spanking booth.

Can we do it again? Are there other events we can hold? Do we have to wait for next September?

Of course we have the postponed "Getting Bi" book launch coming up in November and we hope to stage the Qart exhibition during Mardi Gras month.

Biversity parties - where to from here?

I'm still astounded that I've been involved with the running of 13 Biversity parties given that I knew absolutely nothing about the organisational side before Michael W. took the bull by the horns and made it happen.

Biversity 13 was held at Rogues which seems to be a great venue but it needs at least 300 people to be there to make a go of it. Unfortunately we only got around 200. Of course that still rates as the biggest gathering of openly Bi and Bi-friendly folk you'll find in Oz so as a community event it was a success, but financially we made a loss.

So here's the forum to give some feedback on what you think. There are a whole lot of variables to take into account and believe me the various Biversity organisers have thought them through but of course what really counts is what the partygoers and the Bi community think of the parties.

Should they be bigger or smaller?
Should they be more frequent or less?
Should they be more widely marketed or kept within the Bi community?
Should we vary the music/DJs or concentrate on one genre?
What is an acceptable ticket price?
When should they start and end?
Should we continue to rely on volunteer effort?
Do we want more shows/entertainment or less?
Is Oxford St the right locale?
How do we keep the party something special for Bi folk?

Media Whoring workshop recommends blogging

Well I'd thought about using blogging as a tool for myself to keep a sort of diary of the work that I do for Bi-NSW, but I'd never thought of using it as a community "tool".
This afternoon at our Media Whoring Workshop it was one of the technologies that we discussed that can allow easy information gathering and sharing without having to dedicate enormous resources to managing it.
So here it is - the start of a blog that will hopefully see all sorts of different people in the NSW Bi community add their thoughts and news.

NOTE Look for us up on level one - probably around in the "Deck Bar" which is just beyond the pool tables.
